Does anyone have taxi way and runway lights as well as general lighting for their airports? If so what did you use and how did you wire them or power them?

I think several have used fiber optics..... They have one light source, with a few color filters, and a lot of fiber optic cables... The cables generate little to no heat and reduce the risk of fire and can be used in very small spaces. I think it is a very common practice in lighting model ships as well. That might be a good place to start researching for materials as well..

Thanks Matt. There is one or two fiber optic options in the links I just posted. First I have to get at building an airport or section of an airport as a learning tool. This will let me figure out my mistakes before I take on a larger project. I think lights add a lot to some set ups.

Herpa has a lighting kit (fibre optics) but you'll have to order from Herpa Germany as I don't think its available Stateside. If someone has a US dealer for this kit, please post as I would be interested in knowing.

I think its because you will need to buy a converter to use 110V outlets and the plug is different

I have bought from Herpa Germany and they are easy to deal with and you don't need to write to them in German

Their kit also allows you to run them sequentially from the outer marker which is kinda neat

I was going to buy it this year and one other place to look and buy is German Ebay

I was told last year that they will be releasing a 1/200 NATO military ground mat so that will be something to look forward to. I mainly collect 1/200 military diecast which depict their operational cammo rather than the more colourful schemes.

Thanks Jack, I 'll take a look around.

I saw these companies listed on other sites. Some look interesting especially the first one.

  Hey Dave;

   I have used model Power "N" scale highway post lamps. (3) to a package

rated @ 14.v You can wire in a series and connect to a small 12.v wall transformer

like a (cell phone) charger, Keep it @ 12v300-500milamp Look for Model railroad

products.  Or I have seen the kit at airplanemuseum web site. Gemeni kit about 115.oo$

This is an Australian or British web site.

Thanks Bill. I think I still have a variable transformer left from my railroad days about 15 years ago. 12V I believe and it will handle lots of lights. I had about 100 led's on my set up, off course they don't draw much current but neither would the N scale lights.
