I tried a light customization on one of my FW 190 models:

HM HA7402, a Focke-Wulf F8 from I / SG2 (Schlacht Geschwader - Ground Attack Wing)

Hobby Master issued this model with the standard main gear cover recovering most of the wheel leg.

But in real use by the end of WWII, I / SG2 was operated over Eastern Germany frontiers (Hungary, Czechoslovakia, aso), and had to support bad weather environment: snow, rain, mud.

Snow and mud caused frequently main gear to be jammed and obliged the Warten (mechanics) to remove the wheel part of the undercarriage cover to avoid these bugs. So was it made for instance for some Junkers 87 Stukas operating from rough country airfields:

And here is a photo of such "simplified" FW 190 F8 (- a true testimony -) being without any doubt the one that inspired the HM model:

In order to obtain a more accurate replica of the real FW 190 F8, I decided to transform carefully the main gear covers so that it complies with most of my reference documents regarding this unit: 

This was done and I think the result conforms more to the reality.
